Moving your domain’s DNS to Cloudflare is one of the best things you can do for your website’s speed and security. If you are using Get Fast Host, the process is straightforward. By routing your traffic through Cloudflare, you get a free SSL, DDoS protection, and a global CDN.

Here is a simple, human-written guide to getting it done.

Phase 1: Add Your Domain to Cloudflare

Before touching your Get Fast Host settings, you need to “invite” your domain to Cloudflare.

  1. Create an Account: Go to Cloudflare.com and sign up.
  2. Add Site: Click the “Add a Site” button in your dashboard.
  3. Enter Domain: Type in your domain name (e.g., yourdomain.com) and click Continue.
  4. Select a Plan: Scroll down to the bottom to find the Free plan. It’s more than enough for most sites. Click Continue.
  5. Review DNS Records: Cloudflare will scan your current records at Get Fast Host.
    • Ensure your A record (pointing to your server IP) and CNAME (usually for www) are present.
    • If everything looks right, click Continue.

Phase 2: Get Your New Nameservers

Cloudflare will now show you a screen that says, “Replace with Cloudflare’s nameservers.”

It will look something like this:

  • Remove: ns4.getfasthost.com
  • Remove: ns5.getfasthost.com
  • Add: drew.ns.cloudflare.com
  • Add: elsa.ns.cloudflare.com

Copy these two new nameservers. You will need them for the next step.

Phase 3: Update Nameservers on Get Fast Host

Now, you need to tell Get Fast Host to let Cloudflare handle your traffic.

  1. Log In: Go to the Get Fast Host Client Area.
  2. Navigate to Domains: Click on “Domains” and then select “My Domains”.
  3. Manage Domain: Find the domain you want to protect and click the “Manage” button (or the wrench icon) next to it.
  4. Nameservers Menu: On the left-hand sidebar, click on “Nameservers”.
  5. Switch to Custom: Select the radio button that says “Use custom nameservers (enter below)”.
  6. Paste & Save: Paste the two nameservers you copied from Cloudflare into the first two boxes. Leave any other boxes empty.
  7. Change Nameservers: Click the blue “Change Nameservers” button to save.

Phase 4: Finalize and Verify

  1. Check in Cloudflare: Go back to your Cloudflare tab and click “Done, check nameservers.”
  2. Quick Start Guide: Cloudflare will ask you to configure a few things.
    • Automatic HTTPS Rewrites: Set to ON.
    • Always Use HTTPS: Set to ON (this protects your users).
    • Auto Minify: You can check these boxes to speed up your code.
  3. Wait for Propagation: DNS changes aren’t instant. It usually takes 30 minutes to a few hours, though it can legally take up to 24 hours.

How do I know it’s working?

Once active, your Cloudflare dashboard will say “Great news! Cloudflare is now protecting your site.” Also, when you visit your site, you should see a padlock icon in the browser address bar, indicating the Cloudflare SSL is active.
